Common Questions

Is DeskCalc free to use?
Yes. Every calculation on this site is free with no account required.
How accurate are the clearance figures?
They are based on the dimensions you enter. For best accuracy, measure furniture including any protruding feet or arm rests, and account for skirting board depth.
What clearance is considered ergonomic?
Building regulations and interior design standards typically recommend a minimum of 90 cm for primary traffic paths and 60 cm for secondary routes.
Can I calculate more than two furniture pieces?
The current calculator handles two pieces simultaneously. Run a second calculation using the combined footprint as a single input to estimate three or more items.
Does the tool account for irregular room shapes?
The calculator works with rectangular rooms. For L-shaped or irregular rooms, divide the space into rectangular zones and calculate each zone separately.
Can I use imperial units?
The tool uses metres. Convert feet to metres by multiplying by 0.3048 (e.g. 12 ft = 3.66 m).
